February 28, 2012

This weekend was pretty mild – weather-wise – so hubby and I spent a lot of it outdoors. We’re excited to be prepping the front of the house {finally} for it’s major facelift! Are you ready for it??

That ugly carport… We’ll see ya! Hopefully in the next week or so it will be out of our lives forever!

That dying tree… already took care of that one here.

The sad empty window boxes from last year… checked that off this weekend!

Home Depot had some pretty little daffodils on sale for $2.50 a pot, so I convinced hubby to let me have them.

Don’t they just look so pretty?

What’s next on the list… let me see, how about that weed-infested yard and lack of grass?

Well before we spend any money on sod, we want to put in a simple sprinkler system because we live in West Texas and we’re always under watering restrictions, so a sprinkler system with a timer will ensure our new grass will get the proper amount of water on our allowed days.

No, we didn’t put in the sprinkler system this weekend, but we did put in a new water line!

Thankfully, all of our plumbing under the house has been updated, but our water line from the edge of the foundation to the meter was the original pipe. It was a 3/4″ pipe that was so corroded and clogged, there were sections where only about 1/4″ were open for water to pass through. Gross, huh? Thanks to my hubby, we now have a 1″ line that is clean and new and will be big enough to handle a sprinkler system!

So the yard has to get worse before it gets better. We also {and I use the term “we” lightly} sprayed the entire yard with round up – GOODBYE weeds, I will not be sad to see you go – found a hibernating tree lizard which may or may not have led me to run into the corner by the door screaming like a little girl, and cleaned up some of the dead vine in our yard.

The plan is in a week and a half we {there I go again} want to till up the yard completely, level it, tear out the joke of a sidewalk that makes our flower beds about two feet deep, and then prep for a larger flower bed and dig some trenches for the sprinkler system!

It’s so close I can almost taste it!
