Party till the cops come!

February 20, 2017

My sweet Beckham turned 3 this weekend and we celebrated BIG! He has been asking for a “police car birthday” for months now so I had to oblige. I love me a good themed party, it’s like one happy creative outlet for me that I really look forward to. We are so thankful to have friends in “high places” here in Abilene (aka friends who are police officers who are willing to take their time off to be a celebrity for a bunch of 3 year olds and literally make their day).

I tried my hand at a petal cake and I’m really happy with how it turned out and the middle layer was blue. And what would a police birthday be without donuts?

Months ago I made a free printable to cut out and decorate. We pass them out to law enforcement when we see them out in public to say Thank you.

I hope this is the ONLY time you get pulled over.

I’m so thankful for this precious little boy.

A Great Reference & a FREE Printable

October 27, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by a friend, who just so happens to be a client of mine, to come and speak to her Rotary about this very blog. I was completely honored and of course said yes! Yesterday was that day and it was a total blast! I was able to share about this hobby of mine that I have grown to love over the last 2.5+ years, and everything surrounding it! I’ve never been asked before to speak about my blog – work yes – but my blog no. My mom wanted so badly for someone to record it, but I wasn’t going to be that girl. Instead I snapped one quick photo before everything began.

I enjoyed it thoroughly and look forward to the next time I get to share about something I love!

So, I have a couple of groups of high school girls that I pour into. I’m no longer and “official” young life leader, but I still have a couple of kiddos that I will not just ditch. We meet once a week {two groups, Wednesday evenings & Thursday mornings}, and it has really been just what I needed. Quitting young life totally at once would have been majorly depressing, so I’m thankful I still have these times with kids. A while back, I saw this pin and immediately wrote it down in my sketch book that I take everywhere. It is such a great little reference that I wanted to share with my girls, so over the last few weeks, we’ve been going through them a handful at a time.

I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to somehow give these references to the girls in some cute/creative way so they would have them on hand, but I wasn’t totally sure how I was going to do that. I started designing them on the computer and just wasn’t thrilled with what I was coming up with. That’s when I decided I wanted to just hand write them. I was a little skeptical at first because I don’t just love my handwriting, but then I was encouraged by my friend Sarah telling me on instagram that she “sometimes finds herself thinking about my handwriting” {in a VERY non-creepy way}. That little note pushed me over the edge, so I got to writing.

I then copied the original onto cardstock and cut them out to 4.25″ x 8″ – a weird size, but stick with me. I wanted them to be framed and cute, so I then went by Michael’s {they have an iPhone app with coupons so I now prefer Michael’s over Hobby Lobby for things like this} and found some inexpensive frames on sale and some cute scrapbook paper.

I bought 8.5″ x 11″ frames and 12″ x 12″ paper – I could have bought 8.5″ x 11″ paper, but it wasn’t as cute.

When I got home, I cut down the paper to the right size and taped the reference list to the center of each before placing them in the frames.

I just LOVE the way they turned out, and the girls did too! Because I love all of you, I thought I would share my hand written file with you {for personal use, not for sale} so that you could make your own framed version if you wanted. I went ahead and put guide lines for where to cut for you, now just download, print, and find some cute scrapbook paper and a frame!

All you have to do is click on the picture above and save it to print it full size!

On knee news {in case you don’t follow me on facebook or twitter, which you can here and here}, I had the MRI Monday and I have a partial tear of something, I didn’t understand his medical terminology but someone told me they thought that was my PCL {?} and possibly a meniscus tear, not sure though on the last one. We’re going to wait it out, 4-6 weeks and see how things are then! Until then, no heels 🙁 and no impact.. but that’s a small price to pay if I don’t have to have surgery! Praise the Lord!

I did manage to get some pain meds along with some others and let me tell you, they are my new best friend. Exactly what I needed for sure! Now why didn’t I do this 2.5 weeks ago?

Have a happy Thursday, tomorrow is FRIDAY!
